Traditionally and for historical reasons, women were less likely to invest and not seen as credible investors. Women still account for only 20% of the senior-level managers in the investment sector (Investopedia.com, 2020).
However, that has been changing for the better - the ASX Australian Investor Study (2020) showcases a promising demographic shift : today, Australian investors are “younger and more women than ever”. In 2020, women participation rose to 45% in the investment industry (Morningstar.com.au, 2020). A study done by the University of New South Wales Business School in 2017 revealed that ‘women make better investors’. The study also found that women spend more time researching investment options and are calm traders while facing the financial high seas (Nabtrade.com.au, 2020).
In 2021, there are more financial opportunities for women to grow than ever before, thanks to women who have been pioneers in the field. Sallie Krawcheck is a finance whizz and CEO & Co-founder of one of the fastest-growing consumer Fintech companies called Ellevest. Ellevest's website states that it was ‘built by women, for women. The financial industry wasn’t’. Krawcheck’s goal is to get more money in the hands of women by closing the gender money gaps. Ellevest has been named one of CNBC's Top 50 "Disrupters," one of LinkedIn's "Most Sought After Startups" and one of Entrepreneur Magazine's "Top 100 Brilliant Ideas."

Danielle Stein Fairhurst is a financial modelling consultant and analyst. Danielle is the founder of the Financial Modellers’ Meetup groups and author of books like “Using Excel for Business and Financial Modelling - Third Edition”, “Financial Modelling in Excel For Dummies”, and many more. She runs regular training seminars around Australia and globally, with custom-built training courses that provide training in Financial Modelling, Data Analysis, Dashboards and Budgeting & Forecasting in Excel.
Danielle is trying to bring as many women as she can along on the journey of financial modelling excellence. Recently, she set up a new group called Women in Financial Modelling to try to get women together who are interested in competing or in getting a financial modelling qualification.
